Disruptive students can be found everywhere. Almost every year or every semester, there is always one student or a group distinguished by their attitudes and classroom behavior that is annoying and bad. As a teacher, teaching is not your only responsibility. As a matter of fact, it is also our job to discipline these students to come up with an atmosphere of harmony within the room.

This can be a very big responsibility on the side of the teacher. But nonetheless, such a task is necessary so as not to leave these students behind. Much more, you need to prevent their wrongdoings so as not to repeat the action. And as previously stated, to create a nice atmosphere making it worthy to be called a classroom where lessons are imparted than a prison cell full of bad students. If you are a teacher having a hard time disciplining these kinds of students, here are some guides to aid you.

Tip 1: Know these students. The very first thing a teacher must do to disruptive students is to know them. This is extremely important as you can get glimpses of their life to really know why they acted as such. Every disruptive behavior has reasons why they do it. You can start knowing them by memorizing their names first. You can even read their former class reports to get a glimpse of their former attitude in the previous grades or years. You can even know them even a little out of it.

Tip 2: Acknowledge them. When there are disruptive students sitting on class, it is a teacher's responsibility to recognize what they had done wrong. However, it is also good to recognize what they had done well as well. If they happen to be silent say for instance in one single lecture class, then praise them for such. They will feel important inside and will start doing good things after. What these kinds of student needs is not really harsh words and humiliation especially from a teacher, but rather someone who would understand and make them change.

Tip 3: Talk with these students. By talking to these students you can be able to know them in a deeper side of things. Thus, make sure to have even small chit chats with them, say after the class. Assess their performance in your class and evaluate them if they indeed understood the topic. You can even offer them your help. It is with this kind of thing that disruptive students will open up to you. They would even be grateful with your help and you can be assured they will cooperate with class next time.

These are just tips any teachers who have troubles with the students can do to make them cooperate in class. It is necessary that you will reach out to them in a way sympathizing them with the eagerness to aid them. Don't act as a tyrant but rather a friend who would be willing to change them. Disruptive students are really not hard to handle, you must be able to get their heart first and their trust as well.
