The costs associated with attending college can overwhelm and deter people from furthering their education. But there may be a way to finance your education through your current employer. A portion of your costs for school, or possibly your entire tuition, could be covered. You can even maintain the work schedule you are on if you consider enrolling in an online degree program.
Experts say nearly half of all employees receive tuition reimbursement from their place of employment. With a bit of research and investigating, you may find that your job offers tuition reimbursement, and that you qualify for it. You may be able to get some or all of your college courses paid for.
Before requesting for tuition reimbursement assistance from your employer, make sure you have all of the information you need about your schooling to answer any questions that may arise. Many employees aren't aware of the existence of these programs, but they are often the best source of financial aid and right at your disposal. Some online grant may provide the groundwork for advancing your career.
Once you know the nature of the classes you intend to take, and the degree you are pursuing, set an appointment to have a meeting with your boss face to face. Present to him the reasons why this education will benefit not only you and the tasks you perform at work, but his and the company's bottom line, as well.
It should also be made clear to your supervisors that the quality of your work, and the schedule you keep, will not be affected by your choice to further your education. If you enroll in an online degree program, you can complete your courses without disrupting your current work flow. Your boss will be relieved to be assured that your work will not be compromised. Prepare with some good financial aid information to build your case for advancing your education.
It is important that you are extremely clear on what your company offers in terms of reimbursement. Some companies only cover courses in areas such as accounting, business administration, or finance. If for any reason you decide not to complete your courses, your employer may ask you to immediately repay the money that was allotted to you.
If you discover that your company does not offer such a program, arrange to meet with your boss to see if an agreement can be reached regarding tuition reimbursement options. Present in an organized fashion all of the benefits that you personally and your company will reap from you earning a degree.
