Homeschooling is an option that is becoming more attractive to parents as time goes on. Schools have become increasingly unstable over the past couple of decades. Children roam the hallways unchecked, textbooks are outdated, violence is prevalent, children are bullied mercilessly, and the quality of education on the whole has greatly diminished.
What options do parents have to combat this downward spiral? Initially, private school was thought to be the answer. As enrollment in private schools soared many parents failed to see a difference between public and private schools. The problems were still the same.

An appeal to everybody :
Hi,
About 8 million children in India are denied their basic right to education. With the Right to Education Act making education free and compulsory, we must now join hands to help these children exercise this right.
UNICEF has started a movement Awaaz Do that provides us a platform to ensure that no child in this country is denied his/her basic right to education. Pledge your support to the cause.

Homeschooling is good but it also important for children to be enrolled in schools, meet their mates and learn other aspects of social life that homeschooling alone cannot provide. I think homeschooling is a good complement but not a replacement.

The advantages of homeschooling, is that you don't or aren't ''strongly'' advised to ''test'' and ''medicate'' your straight A student for ADHD or any other disorder, to educate your child. You do get to teach your child more of your values along with the core curriculum. Flexibility of different learning styles / curriculum and time managed in classroom setting and child's own pace. The ''lack'' of ''socialization as in; peer pressure, violence, lack of values and drugs.

I think the idea of home schooling is purly individual. For this type of schooling, the parents must be fully aware of the current trend of education as well as they should have a great forsightedness to think about the future of their children. They should have ample of time for their children for the success of this type of schooling.

I have seen homeschooling abused and used magnificently...I've seen homeschooled students socially/academically profoundly backward and socially/academically years beyond their peers. I believe that homeschooling for children is like anything else...it works for some and not for others. Children and parents are all very different. Some parents are amazingly gifted teachers, and others struggle. Some children really thrive in homeschooling envrironment and others shut down. Each case must be judged separately...and sometimes this means even within the same family! One sibling may do better at home, another may advance better in a school with peers. I've seen this in one family. Thankfully, the mother was wise enough to evaluate this correctly, and her children all have thrived as a result.
It takes really knowing your children and being finely attuned to their individual needs....something that not all parents seem able to perform, for varying reasons. But it's oh-so-worth it!!!
I've taught in both homeschool and public school....and still do! Public school AM and homeschool PM. I would love to hear from others who have/do.

I homeschooled my children in the early years. I only homeshcooled my youngest up until 1st grade, but she is part of the G&T program at school and has the highest GPA of her class.
My oldest is now in 10th grade and made the top five of her class last year. I definitely believe home schooling prepared to be excellent students. I recommend it for many, but definitely not all. The parent has to be organized and able to teach the material. If a parent is not good at math or English I would not advise trying it.

Hi there..
In most cases, home schooled children are unable to adjust themselves to their society because they didn't have the chance to interact with classmates & teachers. Not facing problems isn't a good sign! In fact those problems are what make school life more interesting and worthy experiencing. You know, the school doesn't only pass knowledge. It enriches the child's life experience; it's more about real life situations. I think a combination of both home & school teaching is best!

Teachers should always try to teach kids in schools in such a way - until the all children actually learns it. That is extremely difficult, but that's how it should be
