An appeal to everybody :

Hi,

About 8 million children in India are denied their basic right to education. With the Right to Education Act making education free and compulsory, we must now join hands to help these children exercise this right.

UNICEF has started a movement Awaaz Do that provides us a platform to ensure that no child in this country is denied his/her basic right to education. Pledge your support to the cause.

To join the cause,
Log on to www.AwaazDo.in
Indians can also SMS AWAAZDO to 53030

When I had my own grade 1/2 classroom I used a file folder for children who had finished their work ahead of their peers. It contained enriched work which was related to what we were working on. For example, it had additional activities related to animal habitats above and beyond what we had time to complete in class time. Also, I used centres which were also related so that children who finished could sign up to the centres and work quietly and independently at them while enhancing skill sets.

I ask those students to create a new question or a numerical which they think could be challenging to their classmates and then ask them to pose the same to the class. Most of the time i have found that this not only motivates them to work but also prevents them from doing some distracting and disturbing activities in the class

I have made a 100 page book of math sheets that are of a pirate theme. They are very tricky but easy enough for a bright, quick student to do.

Wow! I like the idea of making such list. What I do for my classes is to select some picture books around. Students are free to read when they finished assignments early in class. I should think about making it more productive...

I went to a teaching seminar and the teachers teaching it had a list of assignments for the children to do when they finished their work. The children I don't believe were told these were optional but they were listed with all their other assignments. Things like 1. Draw 3" 5" and 1" lines. 2. Copy the color words and draw a triangle of that color beside the word. 3. Write a line of each tch wh and ch. 4. Draw a picture of you helping a parent. 5. Write Exodus 20:12.
What I would like are some suggestions of all kids of learning activities so I could list a few everyday for my students.
